Voters Show Up!

Strong Message Sent to ABC Party as both council seats won by COPE and OneCity

The lines were long but voters hung in there and made their voices heard. As a result, Sean Orr of COPE topped the polls, followed by OneCity’s Lucy Maloney. Both candidates won with significant majorities. The two ABC candidates came in 6th and 7th place, well behind TEAM and the Greens.

With this result, voters sent a message of discontent to the ABC party. We’ll see how Mayor Sim and his ABC councillors respond when council sits again.

Meanwhile, Sean Orr is clear about why he was running for council:

“I can’t wait to be at City Council to be a thorn in Ken Sim’s side every day – fighting for the housing we need, demanding real climate action like better public transit, & working to restore integrity to City Hall.”

City Council meetings should get a little more interesting!

As for the long lines, City Manager Paul Mochrie has apologized and is promising to do better next time. You can hear him talking about it with CBC Radio One’s Gloria Macarenko here.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to vote. Now…on to the federal election!
